if there’s one piece of advice I have for anyone in high school right now, it’s that community college isn’t a bad option. like at all. in fact I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t gone to community college before I transferred to my current university, I wouldn’t be prepared whatsoever. don’t be embarrassed to attend community college if your grades aren’t up to par or even if you can’t decide on a school or a major yet. you’ll save tons of money and I guarantee you that you’ll learn so much from the experience. there was always a stigma with community college when I was in high school but believe me when I say it’s all bullshit. don’t rule out community college ok?

It’s also great for when you fail out after freshman year and have to decide in a matter of weeks (or days in my case) what to do with the mess you’ve made.

Things people should know because university/college in the US is not mandatory and there are alternatives if the traditional university/college experience does not work for them:
– College (or in the US, I believe they are called vocational schools) are great ways to get in field experience, possibly shorter time span, and usually far less expensive.

– Trade schools. We need trades people right now. It can be expensive, but if you like working with your craft in this specific area, this might be something you could look into.

– Community college is nothing to be ashamed of. Certification and qualifications are certifications and qualifications. They might even have BETTER in field experience. And if nothing else, it is a foot in the door to post secondary or a recovery spot if you got overwhelmed.

– Several jobs that do not require post secondary can be good jobs. Look up jobs in your state/province/region to see what they might be and the salary you can expect. There’s no shame in joining the workforce.

– Failing out of post secondary happens. If it’s important to you, see what you can do to salvage it. Try other post secondary institutions to build yourself up again. Join the workforce for a while. Take time to address whatever was wrong. You’ll figure it out eventually.

– There are numerous alternative styles of university you can try. Check them out and see if one of them sounds better to you. You don’t have to force yourself into a face to face traditional university/college framework you’re not prepared for.

Do people just magically start liking coffee or do they go through some 6 months long purification ritual to finally like it

I would like an answer to this question.

The ritual is called “everybody at college and/or work drinks coffee”.

I don’t. Did I miss a meeting?

Well, this doesn’t apply to literally everyone.

I know, I’m just goofing around and being silly. I totally get how people need pick me ups at college. For me, it comes in the form of either candy or internet.

Christopher Gray, 21, a Drexel University junior and CEO/Founder of Scholly, has found a way to make finding those scholarships easier.

Gray himself has been very successful in finding scholarship funds.  He is known as the “Million-Dollar Scholar” after being awarded $1.3 million in scholarships.

Over the past three years, Gray has also helped other families manually scour through databases, and figured, “Hey, I need something that can help.  There has to be a faster way.”

Gray developed the answer in the form of Scholly, an app that uses eight specific parameters, like state, GPA, or race, to instantly filter through a deep directory of scholarships available for the prospective student.

“It’s extremely simple,” says Gray and that ultimately was the goal.

“The fact that it’s on the mobile (phone) really hits the audience,” says Soham Bhonsle, 21, a Scholly user and Drexel University senior. “It serves the need of its time. We want it on the go.”

Nicholas Pirollo, chief technological officer for Scholly, also offers that apps optimize searches compared to standard websites because they are more tailored to specific needs.

A recent study, conducted by Sallie Mae, shows that 39% of families used scholarship funds to pay for college during the 2012-2013 academic year and Scholly connects users with relevant scholarships in about five minutes.  Scholly’s database is updated monthly to remove scholarships that are no longer available, add scholarships, and refresh deadlines.

There is money out there to go to school.  Scholly has more than 10,000 downloads of the $0.99 app found in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Scholly’s costs are intentionally positioned at an affordable price to serve more people that need it and boast a potential big payoff.

“Pay 99 cents and you may get $5,000 or $6,000 in scholarships.”

Scholly helps put the power of funding your education in your hands.

I wanted to share with you guys this AMAZING scholarship app.

Please reblog and share for your other followers! We all deserve to get an education, if we want, and scholarships help lessen the financial load.

SPREAD THE KNOWLEDGE!

Good luck to all!!

So, best app ever?

Rape Culture? What is this “Rape Culture” you speak of?

Seriously though, this is terrifying. God forbid I wear a skirt outside — I’m just ASKING   to be raped if I do that.

The 58% statistic actually terrifies me more than any other. Suddenly change the word and you don’t care?

No one will ever be able to convince me that words hold no power.

This is why I am so glad my college of choice is close enough that I don’t have to move out. Because if I were moving out with these statistics, I’d be the most on-edge person ever. God forbid anyone ever surprise me. It might cost them teeth.

And never, EVER underestimate the power of words. That 58% is terrifying. That 83.5%? Remember these people are the ones that are shaping societies future. Remember that and cry.
