one of the biggest and most devious tools being used against voters now is that voting locations for lower income neighborhoods and neighborhoods that are primarily black or hispanic are suddenly closed down, in the middle of nowhere, or only open for 4 hours a day
do whatever you can to help negate that being a barrier

Heey, this is sweet, but you don’t need to become a refugee to live legally in Argentina if you’re Brazilian! It’s the easiest country to move to for Brazilians and the whole process to obtain a DNI (the Argentinian national identity) takes 90 days and you get a 2 year visa, which you can later turn into a permanent residency visa without much trouble. It’s very affordable, we don’t even need to translate the documents thanks to a bilateral agreement and you don’t have to prove you have a job lined up for you or anything. Unless Brazil leaves the Mercosur, there’s no need to go so far as to ask for refuge if you choose Argentina as your destination.

That’s a good question. I think one difficulty in writing a similar history is that while the Targaryen history (at least, the Targaryen history while the Targaryens were in Westeros) is comparatively short (the century or so they spent on Dragonstone after the Doom, and the three subsequent centuries ruling from the Iron Throne), the same cannot be said for the rest of the great Houses of Westeros. Even for those families raised to paramount status after the Conquest (e.g. the Tyrells and the Tullys), they were still known families of some status for thousands of years before Aegon the Conqueror stepped foot ashore Blackwater Bay. That would in turn make any history either very long or focused only on a smaller handful of rulers, as opposed to every member of the House from each one’s founding – less detail than I suspect we will get in the volumes of Fire and Blood.
That’s true, but if one were to just pop into existence and you got to choose which house it was, which house would you want it to be? Mostly I’m interested in what you’d want to see rather than whether its actually plausible that it would be written.

So uhh yeah seems like terfs are at it again with either a) not giving a fuck about if a source is valid or not, or b) being intellectually dishonest.
American College of Pediatricians is literally an anti-gay “socially conservative” think tank, not a “leading group of pediatricians”.

was founded because a bunch of conservative bigots left the American Academy of Pediatricians in protest because they thought it was wrong to let gay couples adopt children.
It’s a think tank founded by bigots specifically to promote a bigoted agenda.
Lots of bigoted groups create academic sounding journals whose content is nothing but bunk that’s been long ago discredited or otherwise disagreed with by most actual experts. Holocaust deniers created one too – the Journal of Historical Review. Sounds legit right? Yeah, no, most experts regarded it as ahistorical, antisemitic bull puckey.
That’s also how the term ‘historical revisionism’ went from something actually useful (a fresh look at history from a new, potentially valid, perspective based on evidence) to something derided (bald faced making shit up, often to support a bigoted conclusion).
Don’t vote straight tickets, don’t just select Democrat. Do each choice individually. People voting straight tickets in Texas caught the machines changing Beto votes to Cruz, while leaving the rest of the ticket Democrat.
Do individual votes, CHECK OVER YOUR BALLOT BEFORE YOU SUBMIT. Don’t exit out and try to start over, you aren’t allowed, your vote will be nulled. Get a poll worker to help you and have THEM document any machine errors, don’t take a pic of your ballot. Get a receipt of your vote. Ask poll workers how they are backing up votes. If you vote by mail, it’s critical to get your ballot in the mail asap. Thousands of votes aren’t counted because they’re stamped too late.
If you’re voting in person, go over every choice in the ballot carefully, and double check that the machine hasn’t changed your choice BEFORE you hit submit. Take your time, even if there’s a long line outside. Ask poll people for help if you have any questions. THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS.
Sometimes I have to ask really basic questions over and over and over before I understand stuff. I never forget, once it’s in my head, but some stuff takes clarifying and reclarifying and re-re-clarifying. I have learned to tell people that I’m not trying to be obtuse or difficult, that I have ADHD and I have to ask and re-ask. I don’t love sharing that with strangers, but it’s the most effective approach (I’ve tried a lot of different coping and learning methods over the years, including “I’d rather people think I’m stupid or sullen or contrary, I’ll be damned if I tell them that I process stuff differently”). But now I repeat back what they said to me, and they say, yup, that’s right, and then usually I say, I have ADHD, so I need to run this by you again to make sure I’m on the same page as you, and I ask some more questions, and 99% of the time they’re cool with it, and help me till I understand. A few people go from thinking I’m contrary to thinking I’m dumb, you can see it in their faces after I explain, but 1. Who cares, I need to understand, so they need to help me, and 2. I don’t think other people are dumb when they don’t notice all the things I see, from subtext to prediction to whatever. There are a lot of ways to be a person. I’m pretty secure with my level of intelligence, and I don’t look down on non-ADHD brains ffs, and 3. This is a small, but important aspect of disability and accessibility. If I told them I had dyslexia, people would be more patient with me re-stating and re-questioning. If I had other disabilities, they would be legally required to assist me or make the process accessible to me.
Everyone gets a seat at the table.
Everyone gets a vote.

Guys, Jon’s a cartoonist who works from home. And we know why Garfield hates Mondays – because every Monday something bad happens to him (ex. Normal visits, his food blows up on him, he has to start a diet, he falls and hurts himself, etc.) so we don’t need to theorize why. I know its something of a common joke to wonder why he hates Mondays, but if you read a lot of Garfield it’s not a mystery.

in California, Prop 2 would fund housing for the homeless, and Prop 10 would allow local rent control.
in Colorado, Amendment A would fucking ban slavery as punishment for a crime. (yes, that’s a real thing.) Amendments Y and Z would hopefully limit gerrymandering. Amendment 73 would tax the rich to pay for education. Proposition 111 would crack down on predatory payday loans.
in Florida, Amendment 4 would restore voting rights to people with felony records who’ve served their time, and Amendment 9 would ban offshore drilling (and also vaping in the workplace, because Florida is weird).
in Idaho, Proposition 2 would expand Medicaid eligibility.
in Maine, Question 1 would fund a universal home-care program for disabled people and older adults.
in Maryland, Question 2 would allow election-day voter registration.
in Massachusetts, Question 3 would protect the state’s transgender anti-discrimination law which is under attack. (it’s not good that this question is on the ballot, but you do need to vote YES on it.)
in Michigan, Proposal 1 would legalize recreational marijuana, and Proposal 3 would strengthen voting rights by instituting automatic voter registration, expanding absentee voting, pushing back deadlines, and more.
in Missouri, Amendment 2, Amendment 3, and Proposition C would all legalize medical marijuana (but they’d tax it different amounts and use the taxes for different things — you be the judge). Amendment 1 would make reforms to lobbying, campaign finance, and redistricting, and Proposition B would raise the minimum wage to $12.
in Montana, I-185 would expand Medicaid eligibility.
in Nebraska, Initiative 427 would expand Medicaid eligibility.
in Nevada, Question 5 would allow automatic voter registration, and Question 6 would require renewable energy.
in North Dakota, Measure 3 would legalize recreational marijuana and expunge existing marijuana convictions.
in Ohio, Issue 1 would downgrade drug possession offenses from felonies to misdemeanors and provide for some criminal justice reforms.
in Utah, Proposition 2 would legalize medical marijuana, and Proposition 3 would expand Medicaid eligibility.
in Washington, Initiative 940 would train cops not to murder people, and Initiative 1631 would charge polluters a fee on carbon emissions and fund environmental programs.
the outcomes of these and other important initiatives will be determined at the ballot box. you can make a direct impact on these issues in your state by doing your research and voting.
can’t vote? search for an organization supporting (or opposing) the initiative you care about, and consider donating your time or money to help them out. even just letting your friends and family know about it can help.
(please note that i’m not an expert on all of these initiatives. you may conclude for example that one of them sounds good, but isn’t implemented well so you can’t support it. that’s fine! but now you know what’s going on in your state and can have your say, and that’s a good thing.)
