yall hear about fucking hb2796

NO I’M FUCKING SERIOUS HAVE Y’ALL HEARD ABOUT FUCKING HB2796 WHICH LITERALLY FUCKING EXCLUDES TRANS PEOPLE FROM CIVIL RIGHTS LEGISLATION

I’m going to keep fucking reblogging this

No Federal civil rights law shall be interpreted to treat gender identity or transgender status as a protected class, unless such law expressly designates “gender identity” or “transgender status” as a protected class.

@yall I see ignoring this please dont. I get it its upseting, but this is IMPORTANT information that could SAVE our lives and our rights.

Also this boils down to stripping rights away from intersex and trans ppl from what I understand, meaning that we would no longer be protected under federal law. This is scary. Call your reps and get this shut down as soon as you can. We can beat this together. We need each other right now. Share this, spread this information.

how you can help:

call your local senator and representatives! websites like 5calls tell you your national representatives based on your location and if you use their mobile site, you can call those representatives through their site. they don’t yet have hb2796 on their site, but you can use their system regardless!

here is an example of something you can say: “My name is (your name) and I am a constituent in (your town/city/district).  I strongly oppose house bill 2796, which aims to remove gender identity protections from civil rights legislation by forcibly clarifying “gender” or “sex” to indicate only a person’s assigned gender at birth. Transgender people require civil rights protections as a vulnerable part of our population, and it is extremely important to me that they receive those protections. Thank you for your time and attention.”

IF YOU LEAVE A VOICEMAIL: leave your street address to ensure your call is tallied!

when you call, they will not argue with you, and basically just tally how many people contact them on a certain issue. also, if you want to support other issues on the 5calls site, don’t be afraid to make multiple separate calls! call volume matters and if you call more separate times it will be better.

Dammit I hate to use this blog for this but- from one trans guy to yall- this is important!

It looks like this bill isn’t getting fast tracked and is actually going through the entire legislative process so keep at it!

This is important. Calling all witches! contact your representatives and then get out those spell ingredients!

Today is August 25th, 2018.

HB 2796 is still in this stage:

It has not passed the House. Keep it up, folks. Eliminate this monstrosity.

Above is still true as of 10 September 2018. Contact your representatives, and vote in November for people who will kill this resolution.

If it hasn’t moved yet, it likely won’t, but if you don’t want to take chances these are ways to fight.

📝👀Where are your senators on this list? 📝👀

🚨⏳LESS THAN 24 hrs until the September 13th 10am EST Vote on Kavanugh.⏳🚨

IF “UNDECIDED” or “YES” VOTE ➡️

CALL and DEMAND they vote NO to #STOPKAVANAUGH (use 5calls.org if you want a script). Make sure to leave your name and address so your call will count. If you are speaking with a staff member, ask that they read the message back to you, so you know they’ve recorded it. Calling is the MOST effective way to communicate with your representatives.

We especially need pressure on UNDECIDED voters: Murkowski, Flake, and Collins. Since undedcided dems are likely to vote “no,” and we need JUST ONE Republican to reject Kavanaugh in order for him to be stopped.

IF “NO” VOTE➡️

Please tweet and
call senate democrats on the judiciary committee, in support of their efforts to #STOPKAVANAUGH and ask that they “Delay the Committee vote on Kavanaugh to Sept. 20!” Pushing the vote back by a week is allowed under committee rules. This rushed vote is a sham for many reasons, including the fact that 100,000 pages of Kavanaugh’s records are being withheld by the Trump White House #shady. We
must delay in order to continue pressuring the undecided senators as we further expose Kavanaugh’s awful history.

  3. If he would recuse himself should any of the President’s civil or criminal investigations reach Supreme Court? ❌Refused to answer (Immediately after this Trump refused to interview with Mueller, these things are RELATED. Kavanaugh will protect Trump from justice.)
  4. If he believed section 2 (prohibits discrimination on basis or race) of the Voting Rights Act was constitutional?Refused to answer

🏛⚖13 HOURS LEFT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!⏱

Now is a great time to call and leave a voicemail🗣☎️

The vote is on the 20th. Remember – only call senators who represent you. Otherwise, no matter what the staffer says, it’ll be disregarded at best and at worst they’ll say all the no calls are coming from out of staters. Plus, imagine how frustrating it’d be to be from those states and call but not get anywhere because out of staters are blowing it for you?

Spread this around and get friends in those states to see it instead.

Donnelly is up for re-election this year, and the race is close, that’s why he’s playing the middle like a wimp.

Well, yeah, sometimes if you’re in a state that widely voted for the opposite party and you want to get re-elected, you have to play the middle on some things. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Donnelly’s better than his opponent, who would vote with Trump a lot more, and someone further left than Donnelly is unlikely to get elected (because, again, this is a state Trump won by far).

Donnelly’s been ranked the most vulnerable Dem in congress. Lately he’s been working on addressing the opiod crisis and strategizing about North Korea.

https://www.roadto2018.com has more info about vulnerable senators.

Article 13 has been approved by EU. It’s worse than Net Neutrality has ever been. I don’t even know if we will have any access to Tumblr, Pinterest, Ao3 or even Instagram. Memes are probably dead, just like reactions, fanfictions and gifsets. Everyone in EU is in danger that they will not have access to their favorite sites. But I haven’t seen a SINGLE post about it on my dash because Americans doesn’t give a damn.

Also, I’m in Europe and ngl, had no idea this was even an article up for debate let alone it being fucking passed.

Don’t panic! This was expected at this stage and it is only the beginning. If you are a European and feel passionate about this, please keep on reading and help!

So what has happened so far … the Commission has drafted up a long overdue copyright reform. https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 It contains a lot of good, and some bad: mainly Article 11 and 13.

This was put forward as a whole to the European Parlament, where it was voted down on the 5th of July 2018

This meant, this will not go through the fast way, and will be subject to scrutiny and change.

The Commission made some alterations https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 and put it forward again. If Parlament would have voted it down again, it probably would have meant back to the drawing board, but most people (including me) agree that Europe does need copyright reform, so on the second vote it passed the first step:

So what happens now?

This will now go into what is called the Trilogue, where Commission, Parlament and representatives of all national governments will sit together to make alterations until everybody is happy implementing the regulation.

This means we can now influence this via our MEPs and our National Government!

In countries that are red your government is likely to support Article 13.

What to do now?

There are a lot of organisations that organise actions against article 13. Check out their websites and get in touch with your MEP or local government and let them know you are unhappy about this.

… and many many more, just google to find one in your country.

Also, as @asthesea-breezehitsmylungs pointed out, a lot of people are not aware of this going on. So make them aware! Share the memes and point them to the petitions. And don’t just complain how shit this is, get in touch with your politicians!

They say they were just “cleaning up the polls” of people who haven’t voted in over three years, but I wonder how many names of people who did vote recently were “accidentally” included in the wipe.

Even if you voted in the last election, please go check your status. These changes happened over the weekend in early September.

If your not registered to vote, register

And if you are registered to vote, keep double checking that this is still the case (And if it’s not, re-register)

I know it’s annoying but it doesn’t take long to do and honestly with all the blatant dirty tricks the Republicans are pulling and their complete disregard for the law it’s better to be safe than sorry…

I Am A Gun Owner, And Here Are 8 Things I Have To Say About Gun Control

stuff-n-n0nsense:

dumpling-ground:

convervative:

quakerjoe:

“I’m a gun owner. I have two pistols, a rifle, a shotgun…and a (now-expired) concealed carry permit. I’ve been shooting since I was a kid.
I also support every single gun control measure out there.
Why? Well, because of a number of logical reasons:

1. I go to gun shows, and I’ve witnessed more illegal cash sales than I can count. People bring guns to sell to dealers at the show and end up selling them to buyers in the parking lot who are willing to pay cash. No background check, no bill of sale, no formal transfer of ownership. Yes, this is happening, people! It is a regular occurrence and illegal in many states.

2. Every time I go to the gun range, I witness someone doing something extremely dangerous with a gun.
I’ve been swept more than 20 times — this means someone has unintentionally pointed a gun at me. I’ve seen the wrong ammo used (ask my husband about the time he almost lost an eye). I’ve watched people shooting guns that they lack experience with or ones that they can’t handle (take, for example, a child or a smaller adult shooting a Desert Eagle semiautomatic handgun), causing kickback that can injure them and cause them to flail their loaded gun in all directions. I’ve seen guns jam, and people continue to fire them to “clear the jam.” I’ve seen people continue to fire when the range is “cold.” All of these people consider themselves “responsible” gun owners. Nope. And these aren’t exceptions to the rule — every single time I go to the range, I see someone doing something reckless and potentially deadly.

3. I’ve seen people handle guns when they are drunk, tired, hungover, or angry. I would never think of doing these things. It is irresponsible, and again, potentially deadly.

4. A friend of my college boyfriend pointed a loaded gun in my face because he wanted to show me how cool his new toy was. I dropped to the ground. He forgot it was loaded. He’s a high-ranking officer in the U.S. Navy.

5. The class you take to get a concealed carry permit in North Carolina is easy to pass. You sit through a two-day class, take a simple written test, get a background check and fingerprints through the sheriff’s office, and basically just have to prove that you can hit the broad side of a barn. That’s it.

6. The “hero mentality” is misguided and dangerous. Unless you have combat training, the “good guy/gal with a gun” is more likely to kill another civilian or get mistaken by cops as the shooter. I’m a decent shot with a pistol. I’m a great shot with my rifle. But in a life or death situation, where people are literally being murdered in front of me, it’s completely unrealistic to think that, even with all my training, I could do anything but add to the chaos.

7. The NRA is a terrorist organization. Yup, I said it. I used to be a member because they gave discounts on shooting-range time. I quit after one year because I couldn’t stomach the thought that my money was funding them. Their magazine and mailers are filled with propaganda about people coming to take my guns when there is absolutely zero evidence at all to suggest that is ever going to happen. Their recent ads make me sick and ashamed that I ever supported them.
8. The home protection argument makes sense to me on some level. I had a friend who was killed during a home invasion, so I get it. But an AK-47 (and other assault weapons) is not an ideal weapon for personal defense, and it serves no purpose for “home protection.” It was designed for military use. A a 12-gauge shotgun is a better, more realistic choice for home defense. I’ve never seen any peer-reviewed study/expert/article anywhere that can refute this. Bottom line: Assault-style weapons should never be in the hands of civilians. Period. And going back to point No. 7, in a home-protection or self-defense situation, you’re still more likely to injure yourself or have your own gun used against you.
These are my thoughts on the subject as an experienced, licensed, and trained gun owner. I’m already a member of the Brady Campaign, Everytown for Gun Safety, and will be joining Moms Demand Action. I find it impossible to understand why other gun owners like myself don’t support these groups. They aren’t trying to take away my guns; they are trying to inject some freaking common sense into the equation — something we desperately need and that every gun owner should support.“

~ Addison Ashe, for Scary Mommy.

and for the fucking record, conservatives, stop touting places like israel and switzerland as “gun utopias.” israel and switzerland both have harsh gun control laws, much harsher than the united states, and you can literally go to jail for simply misplacing your weapon (which could then be used by someone untrained).

Coming from a country where owning a gun is illegal, the concept of untrained civilians holding guns is really distopic

Like if anyone found out you were holding a gun, even an unloaded one, people would literally start running and panicking. They would think that youre a psycho

Coming from a deep red state where you see someone carrying in public every day, it is pretty distopic.

I see a guy with a pistol on his hip at the grocery store and I wonder what kind of worldview makes him think he needs to be strapped to buy cereal and frozen pizza. I think he’s a psycho, too.

Also, for home protection? If you’re the responsible gun owner you claim to be (general you, not the woman who wrote this piece) then guns will not protect you. Because a responsible owner keeps their guns in a safe and their ammo locked separately, sometimes with the clip in a third separate place. You think a home invader will patiently wait while you go get those?

And if you don’t keep them stored separately, you’re asking for someone untrained to find it or for it to go off. Gun accidents kill  a lot of people in situations like that. (Would also make it easier for the invader to get the weapon in one piece from you, just saying).

Just a PSA for those who may also be worried about losing anything.

Any hurricane –

->Take pictures of your valuables AND the stickers with the serial numbers on it.

-> Have all important documents together and with you. This includes but not limited to: Birth Certificates, Social Security information, marriage/divorce certificates and paperwork, bank information, passports, etc.

-> If you evacuate take above important documents along with any weapons. It sounds bad but good chance for looters to get weapons. Even people will still take advantage of others in shitty situations.

-> If you evacuate take any and all medication with you. I am not talking herbal things like fish oil and multivitamins. I’m talking about prescription medication to as little as ibuprofen and Nyquil. Bonus bring a first aid kit.

-> Try. To. Bring. Your. Animals. With. You.

Please put an effort to try. If anything most people are told to let them loose.

Do. Not. Leave. Them. Tied. Up. Or. In. A. Kennel. Locked. In. Your. Home.

Take a picture of them as well. In case the apca catches them and put them in kennels for people to find after the storm.

-> This past hurricane they have been requesting people to write their phone number on live stock hooves should they be lost to contact owners.

-> Items may be lost and you can get most of them back. However there is only one of you. You, family members, and pets. Please be safe.

This is not limited to Hurricanes!

Not just hurricanes. Floods, fires, and tornadoes too.

Though… my mom’s aunt’s family lived in an area that was basically a bowl and would flood during every rainstorm. Back in the 70s and 80s things were more lax and to cheat the system they lied and said they owned more than whatever they did so the insurance company would replace their stuff plus give them new stuff. They would pawn the new stuff to make more money, and this happened a lot.

They can’t be as easily tricked these days. Keep receipts. Take photos of everything. Because people like the aunt’s family stole a lot of things and helped make the problem worse for those who actually need help. Insurance companies don’t even believe you when you have proof now thanks to such people but you need to cover all the bases as much as you can.

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression.

We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report

The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment.

Tumblr is and always has been a place for creative expression, and these new regulations would only make it harder for you to express yourself with the freedom and clarity you do so now.

If you access Tumblr from Europe and want to act, you can find more information on saveyourinternet.eu

Please reblog this as much as you reblogged the posts about Net Neutrality.

If Article 13 is approved, European People might be basically banned from uploading any fan content.

You won’t get new gifs from people in Europe.

You won’t get new fanart from people in Europe.

Because they’ll be automatically filtered and blocked!

We might leave Tumblr and other fandom pages.

And if we’re getting all our content blocked?

You might lose some of your favourite followers/mutuals.

You might not get to read the rest of that fic you’re dying to read – simply because the writer lives in the wrong country.
