Because the pre-existing name for the Tye/Jaime ship (confident) makes NO sense, I’m demanding a new one. I vote Shadowbeetle. Or Hermanos. Or something. Anything but Confident.

My reasoning: A lot of the people shipping Tye/Jaime have decided that, since they’re bros they should tell each other…

I came up with Confidant because at the time, it seemed like Jaime was Tye’s confidant for his shitty home life. Unfortunately because it was 3:00 AM when I came up with it, I misspelled it as Confident, which doesn’t make sense. And I did a lot of squealing over them at the time, so some other people started using the misspelled one.

If you don’t like it, I do like the sound of Shadowbeetle. Hermanos can be mistaken for Bluepulse. I’ve also seen Blueshadow, Greater Purpose, Taime, Tye/Jaime,  and TyeXJaime.

For consistency’s sake, and because I’ve gotten in the habit of calling them that, I’ll probably stick to Confidant, but you should choose whichever ship name works for you.

Any other shippers want to weigh in on this?

The only issue I have with this is that a consistently used ship name allows the fandom to squee together, and the problem with Confident AND Confidant is that it forces fans and shippers to shift through pages of unrelated posts in order to find what they’re looking for. That’s kinda the point of ship names. If someone were to look up, say, Bluepulse. There’s no chance to find anything that DOESN’T have to do with Blue Beetle/Impulse. I don’t care what people call the ship to those who know what they’re talking about, but I feel like if we’re all going to use our own ship names then we’re gonna need to tag anything related with like forty different ship names so that other shippers can see and appreciate our posts, and so that we can see and appreciate theirs. A more universally used ship name is just more practical.

While I do see your point about universal ship names giving universal squee, I also have to point out that, as for scrolling through unrelated posts, Angelfish and Neverland both have that problem as well, as do a lot of other smaller ships with names that don’t come from the character names. Heck, even some ship names that do sometimes have that problem. Another problem is that the ship is so small that most of the shippers just seem to have a personal name for it.

This is definitely turning into a concern. I don’t want people getting frustrated/confused about this. If you wouldn’t mind, could you message me later and we’ll see if we can come up with something? I think I have an idea for how we can fix this, but I want to go over this with you.

Where on earth did you get that idea? …Other than me saying “Message me, I have a possibly evil, certainly entertaining plan?”. *blushes* I wouldn’t say that. I’m just used to being in the minority when it comes to shipping (I dig smaller ships a lot) and having to drag them into the spotlight, kicking, screaming, and swearing if necessary. And I may have already sworn to put this particular ship on the map, even if it’s by sheer force of refusing to shut up about it.

Aww! Appreciated muchly! I must say, you seem pretty awesome yourself (but then, you ship Tye/Jaime so you’d have to be). Well over the past weekend I acquainted myself with most, if not all, the names people seem to be using for the ship (For the record, if any fellow shipmates are reading this: The amount of fan love out there for these two, even as friends, is pathetic and you all should feel bad!). I was thinking we could make a poll and see over an allotted amount of time what name won out. That way it isn’t just decided by us three, and it’s a way to get results. One problem – no idea how to make a poll. Oops. If either of you do, please let me know. Plan B is a lot more time-consuming and I don’t wanna have to resort to that.

I’m new to tumblr, but I’m sure I can figure it out 😛
