All The White Supremacists Running For Office In 2018

thecringeandwincefactory:

aka14kgold:

It’s a good start, but this list is limited to (the most explicit) racists already running for *national* office. A watchlist of white supremacist candidates for state- and local-level seats is very necessary as well.

And of course, a caveat that they’re talking Arpaio-level white supremacism here, not your garden-variety all-Republicans-are-racist-and-so-are-plenty-of-Democrats everyday racism. I don’t blame them – that list would be so large as to overwhelm anyone.

Reminder: Do not buy from Amazon or even open the website on 10 July 2018, in solidarity with the transnational strike.

Amazon workers in Spain have called for a transnational strike because Amazon has been avoiding accountability for its labour rights violations by merely shifting the work (and the human rights abuses Amazon inflicts on their workers) to non-striking countries, each time a strike occurs. If there is widespread striking transnationally, Amazon will have no choice but to recognize the strikers’ demands in order to keep their facilities functioning.

Our job as allies is to support the strike by avoiding using the Amazon website or purchasing anything from Amazon for as long as the strike continues. A mass boycott of the site, coinciding with the strike, will strengthen the workers’ bargaining position and could be crucial to Amazon workers gaining back basic rights in a variety of countries.

Please remember this includes subsidiaries like Twitch and Audible.

This is tomorrow!

Please do not shop on Amazon tomorrow.

Please do not stream Amazon music or video tomorrow

Please do not order from sites using Amazon Payments tomorrow.

For one day, please, avoid it.

As a worker-for-rent who’s worked during strikes or demonstrations – PLEASE, if there’s a strike DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THAT COMPANY ON THAT DAY IF THERE’S ANY WAY TO AVOID IT. Not only do folks like me get an easy day, it’s also a powerful act of class solidarity.

Also, if you’re a social media type of person, please tweet and comment at the company that you’re choosing not to use their services, in solidarity of the strike. Make sure they know.

These dudes are fucking legit.  They don’t just show up one day in court, either, they actually make friends with the kids and let them know they have a support system and that there are people in the world who care about them and will always have their back.  And less important, but also cool, is that the few times a couple of them have come into my cafe, they’ve been super friendly and polite and when I told one of the guys that I noticed his Bikers Against Child Abuse patch and wanted him to know how awesome I thought he was because of it, he got kind of shy and blushed and said, “The kids are the awesome ones, we just let them know they’re allowed to be brave.”

The source is long, but so, so good. These men and women are available in 36 states, 24 hours a day to stand guard at home, in court, at school, even if the child has a nightmare. Many of them are survivors of childhood abuse as well, and know what it’s like to feel scared and alone.

In court that day, the judge asked the boy, “Are you afraid?” No, the boy said.

Pipes says the judge seemed surprised, and asked, “Why not?”

The boy glanced at Pipes and the other bikers sitting in the front row, two more standing on each side of the courtroom door, and told the judge, “Because my friends are scarier than he is.”

Actual tears.. hnngh

Show me more of people like this, world. I give up on humans too easily.

where do i sign up for this,i want to be in this gang

This is fucking amazing. It may be out of character for me to say this but rock on

Bikers Against Child Abuse was founded in 1995 by a Native American child psychologist whose ride name is Chief, when he came across a young boy who had been subjected to extreme abuse and was too afraid to leave his house. He called the boy to reach out to him, but the only thing that seemed to interest the child was Chief’s bike. Soon, some 20 bikers went to the boy’s neighborhood and were able to draw him out of his house for the first time in weeks.

Chief’s thesis was that a child who has been abused by an adult can benefit psychologically from the presence of even more intimidating adults that they know are on their side. “When we tell a child they don’t have to be afraid, they believe us,” Arizona biker Pipes told azcentral.com. “When we tell them we will be there for them, they believe us.”

More about BACA, from their site

My parents are a part of this organization and they are metal af

They go on runs to protect the child if they feel even the slightest threatened no matter where. If the child needs them to go on vacation with them, they do. Bikers come from across the nation to watch over and take shifts for these kids. And the best part is once you’re adopted into this family as a BACA kid, you’re always one. Even when you’re 40 and the perp gets released from jail, they’ll come meet with you and find your best options for avoiding the person and maintaining the life you’ve built for yourself. Once a BACA child, always a BACA child. In Florida, there’s 100% rate for identifying the perp based on the child’s testimony. Why? Because BACA stands with the child and supports the child so they feel comfortable enough to point out their attacker.

What’s better than a badass biker gang being on your side???

NATIVE AMERICAN CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST WHO IS A BIKER AND NAMED HIMSELF CHIEF HELL YES I’M HERE FOR THAT AND BIKERS BEING BAD ASS TO PROTECT KIDS. HELL YEAH.

it’s back! I will always reblog BACA

Damn good people.

I know they wouldn’t consider themselves such, but these people are freaking heroes and the world is a better place because of them.

Hey folks, it talks about this in the article but its not mentioned in this post, BACA is a 501 © (3) charity that depends in part on donations to help pay for stuff like gas for their bikes. If you want to help, consider donating.

@copperbadge You like posting about heroes, Sam. Seems like this would be up your alley.

I love these folks! I’ve reblogged them before but it’s wonderful to see the donation information has been added.

Always reblog. Keep doing what you’re doing y’all.

Guys? This post changed my life. I saw this post. Forever ago. And thought it was only in america… and wished desperately that they could help me. But then I saw it again, during a bad episode, and checked their site. They aren’t just in the USA

They’re in Canada as well and probably other countries. I met and talked with a native guy who runs the place near me. His name is Shaman. I got in, and I’m considered a BACA child now. Despite being 17, turning 18 when I talked to them. They spent time with me when my abuser was over, they gave me therapy resources. They give you something called a ‘level 1′ where they go to your house with as many bikers as they can, i shit you not a solid 20-40 bikers came from even out of province, and met me. I got to choose my biker name and I got a vest with patches on it and my name on it. They all hugged a Teddybear before giving it to me, and told me if I ever felt the BACA bear was running out of love, to give them a call and they’d refill it for me, and then I got a ride on one of their bikes. Just a day or so ago I went to an annual party with them and they we ate food one of them cooked and had a lot of laughs.

I’ve never felt as loved as I did being a part of the BACA family. They also gave me dog tags with the names, and phone numbers of my 2 workers.  So I can call them whenever I feel scared.

BACA is an absolutely wonderful group that will do everything in it’s power to help any child whos been abused.

And it doesn’t end when you’re 18 either. As long as you get in contact/get your level 1 before you’re 18? you’re ALWAYS a BACA kid. I’m 18 now and they still invite me to parties, ask me if I’m okay, and are there for me. They’re still trying to find me resources for therapy.

BACA has changed my fucking life.

I hope you all can read this, and reblog it knowing from someone who fucking been with them, that they are absolutely amazing.

This is truly amazing, I’m so glad people like this exist

This needs to be reblogged. Because.

Always reblog BACA.

I did not know BACA was active in Canada also!

It’s also a level of elitism and classism and ethnic purification and a whole lot of jazz because not everyone will be able to pay these fees and those who can’t will just have to suffer and then America would only be gaining the more affluent of the bunch

Does anyone know if there’s any kind of fund to donate to these families?????

There is! They’ve been collecting since they’ve started, help donate!

The Captain Would Be Proud!

Captain America would most definitely be Republican, go ahead and take this headcanon from my COLD DEAD HANDS.

Son, what makes you think Captain America would be a REPUBLICAN? First off, he’s the son of Irish Immigrants, which in his day were maligned and discriminated against , secondly, he’s an artist who grew up poor and near one of New York’s gay communities, he also grew up disabled in an era where Eugenics was on the rise and people would have berated him for being a burden on society,  he grew up during the rise of socialism in the US. so he’s a backer of the New Deal, Social Security and Unions, help for the poor and the working class. He had the first intregrated unit in the Army (in the comics and the mcu) and in the MCU had a woman as his superior officer. And in the movies his best friends and allies are THE FALCON and THE BLACK WIDOW.

In real life Steve Rogers was created by two young Jewish men who had Cap punch Hitler in the face on the cover of Cap’s first comic book when the US didn’t want to enter the War.  That’s a political statement of intent that rings true today.

Damn right Cap would never be a Republican, not when the leader of their party the Orange Imbecile is giving aid to foreign enemies and spewing white supermacist hate. Notice how ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE ABOVE POST ARE NOT REPUBLICANS.

Cap would be punching Republicans all over the place. He fucking hates fascists–canonically–and the GOP openly supports all fourteen common characteristics of fascist states.

His best friends in the comics are Sam, Natasha, Bucky, and Arnie Roth. Arnie Roth was Steve’s childhood best friend in the comics (Bucky didn’t meet Steve until they were already in the military in the comics). Arnie is the one who protected Steve from neighbourhood assholes and marvelled at the serum’s affects when he and Steve met again in the military.

Basically MCU!Bucky stole Arnie’s backstory and rifled it for loose change.

Arnie is significant because he was one of Marvel’s first openly gay characters (he was also Jewish iirc because why not throw an extra fuck you at people like Red Skull?). He had a boyfriend named Michael. This was during the middle of the AIDS crisis. Here’s a hint about Cap’s reaction – he thought it was BULLSHIT that Arnie and Michael couldn’t get married even though Steve could marry his girlfriend. He castigated RED SKULL and others like him (read: antisemitic, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, ableist, etc.) as being the real problem with society. Granted, the run isn’t perfect, but Steve’s very supportive, including when Michael is murdered by a super villain. He and Arnie are the only people who go to his funeral and when he starts to talk about how bad he feels about it, Arnie basically shuts him down and is like ‘No. This is my mourning time. You shush.’ And Steve does and gives his friend a hug.

I’m pretty sure Arnie’s dead now – Marvel wiki says cancer.

In the comics, Steve is also explicitly pro immigrant (he was an immigrant after all), the son of a 1930s factory worker who worked a low end job (because they were broke and then his dad died so she had to so he’d never have expected women to stay home – none of the women he knew did), took advantage of government social programs to get work (the New Deal hired a ton of artists for work hoping they would help stimulate the economy), is an abuse survivor who saw addiction up close (his father was an abusive alcoholic) and fought both Nixon and Reagen (granted, they’d been aliens or turned into monsters in the comic but STILL) and grew up in a gay neighbourhood.

And more importantly, even in the movie version, he says it straight up – he doesn’t like bullies.

Steve stands with the marginalized. He always has. I can’t imagine he’d vote for someone who very clearly does not value them and wants to hurt them.

U.S. Opposition to Breast-Feeding Resolution Stuns World Health Officials

northstarfan:

A resolution to encourage breast-feeding was expected to be approved quickly and easily by the hundreds of government delegates who gathered this spring in Geneva for the United Nations-affiliated World Health Assembly.

Based on decades of research, the resolution says that mother’s milk is healthiest for children and countries should strive to limit the inaccurate or misleading marketing of breast milk substitutes.

Then the United States delegation, embracing the interests of infant formula manufacturers, upended the deliberations.

American officials sought to water down the resolution by removing language that called on governments to “protect, promote and support breast-feeding” and another passage that called on policymakers to restrict the promotion of food products that many experts say can have deleterious effects on young children.

When that failed, they turned to threats, according to diplomats and government officials who took part in the discussions. Ecuador, which had planned to introduce the measure, was the first to find itself in the cross hairs.

The Americans were blunt: If Ecuador refused to drop the resolution, Washington would unleash punishing trade measures and withdraw crucial military aid. The Ecuadorean government quickly acquiesced.

I have mixed feelings on this.

On one hand – breastfeeding parents absolutely do deserve support and I do know many still get harassed and treated badly, especially in public. That said, the benefits of breastfeeding in industrialized countries with clean water have been seriously seriously overstated, and formula is not hurting babies. The movement stating such is largely based on poorly done studies and pseudoscience that mostly benefits the lactation consultant industry and it seriously screws both babies and parents over. I’ve seen a lot of parents saying they didn’t want to or couldn’t breastfeed (and insufficient breastmilk is a common problem) but were pressured into doing so. Sometimes it interferes with sleep, work, or time with other family and friends, to the detriment of health, finances and quality of life. So the resolution stating breast milk is best, limiting marketing and access to formula and calling on governments promoting breastfeeding is …not a great idea. It leads to dehydrated babies and often damages parents psychologically. On that level, it’s for the best to not have this resolution.

On the other – Trump doesn’t give a rat’s ass about healthcare. He probably does care about the formula industry giving him money (although I’ll point out that lactation industry isn’t doing badly for themselves either). He almost DEFINITELY cares about using this as an excuse to threaten more sanctions on more countries and withdrawing military aid. That’s…not good. Ecuador shouldn’t be threatened with retribution on this, especially since the US can simply refuse to adopt the resolution or follow it (lord knows they do that on plenty of resolutions) so this is basically him playing king of the mountain.

Tumblr account terminated

fuck-ler:

mobandroyalty:

masha-russia:

So this happened to me a few days ago, and I thought maybe sharing my experience could help someone if this happens to them in the future.

I was checking my Tumblr when suddenly I was logged out from it and given the usual Log In page. When I entered the details to access my blog, this appeared:

My heart skipped a bit. I tried to re-enter the details (maybe I got them wrong the first time), but no, the same message about Termination was shown. I typed my blog URL and got the

ominous

:

Same thing with my sideblogs.

So obviously I was very worried. I contacted the Tumblr support but didn’t get an answer for 48 hours, only an automated reply. I already started mentally saying goodbye to my blogs, my posts and all my followers, when finally I recieved their answer:

(In case you can’t see the picture, it says:

Hello,
We’ve restored your account.
Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention. We’re sorry that it occurred, and we’ll do our best to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.
You should now be able to log in just fine with your email address and password.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.

My blog was restored and working normally. All my sideblogs were intact , and so were my posts and my followers. The only thing that was lost, is all the conversations by Messages. The people with whom you talked are still there, but all the history of the conversation is gone.

Alright so here is what you should do if this happens to you. Don’t panick like I did Click on the “contact support” link provided in the terminated window. Alternatively, go on Tumblr.com/support

Politely explain your situation – give your blog URL, your mail, tell what happened exactly. I understand that the situation can be upsetting, but the person who will read the message and try to help you isn’t directly responsible for the termination of your blog. And sending an angry message with insults isn’t the best way to get your blog back either.

Wait for the reply of the team. If you feel like it takes too much time (more than few days for example), try to fill the Help/Support form again.

Once the team is in contact with you, keep the polite tone. Normally if your blog didn’t go againt the Tumblr rules and policies, you should getit back like I did.

Voila 🙂

Guys this is important. 2 of my followers and rp partners got their accounts terminated today so be careful

This happened to me twice

One thing that puzzles me in science fiction and fantasy is the general lack of diversity among non-human species. Like, I see people refer to, for example, “Martian language” and I’m like “…there’s only one Martian language? On a planet that size? Do you have any idea how many languages we have???”

I dunno, the lack of differences among aliens and fantasy creatures in language, cultures, even ethnicity, always struck me as a little unrealistic. And I’m not really complaining about it – nobody wants to come up with hundreds of cultures and such for a book and it makes game mechanics easier if there’s a single language you can learn (or ‘learn’ as the case may be) or a single culture to keep in mind. It’s just also something that seems hard to believe to me.

In the Netflix Era, a Video Store Becomes a Cultural Asset

moon-hotel:

kenyatta:

Four years ago, the owners of Scarecrow Video brought all their staff members together to deliver some bad news. Like video stores across the country, the business was struggling. Its rentals and purchases had decreased dramatically as customers flocked to online streaming services. The owners were writing their own checks just to keep the business running, but they couldn’t do it anymore. It looked like they might have to part with their collection of over 130,000 videos—one of the largest publicly available video archives on earth.

[…]

So the staff came together to pitch their own proposal. The idea was simple: They would keep the collection together, in the same space and open to the public, but transform the business into a nonprofit. After some back and forth over details, the owners agreed to donate everything in the store—the films and the shelves they were stored on—to Scarecrow Video, the nonprofit.

The result is something like a museum mixed with a video store. A team of 20 volunteers devotes hours each week to collect movie returns and restock the shelves. Most evenings, they hold one of their many community outreach programs for the public, such as the Children’s Hour, an event with the public library across the street that features a series of stories, videos, and activities for kids that center on a specific theme.

[…]

Four years later, Scarecrow Video hasn’t just survived, it’s done quite well. It took the staff less than a week to raise the $100,000 they needed to get the nonprofit off the ground, with donations coming from as far away as Australia, Japan, and Bulgaria. And each year when they ask for more money, they’ve been able to get it from a band of loyal patrons.

This is interesting–libraries (at least around where I live) often carry DVDs as well as books and Internet access, but this is the first time I’ve heard of a museum specifically for movies and TV that’s focused on being as open to the public and accessible as possible. Places like these will only become more important as time goes on!

Future librarian 1000% here for movie libraries/museums/cultural archives.
