Keep Calling About the AHCA

blenderbender1811:

blenderbender1811:

This Upton tweak doesn’t actually do anything major to help. It helps a bare fraction of those with pre-existing conditions. 24 million people still lose healthcare, and those with pre-existing conditions are still the hardest hit.

Keep calling your reps (your REPS, not your Senators) and tell them to oppose both this nonsense and the rumoured Executive Order allowing discrimination against the LGBTQIAPN+ community tomorrow and restricting abortion and birth control rights.

You can call, fax, leave a voice message, write a letter, whatever. Just include your full address, including ZIP or your message will be junked.

Vote is tomorrow at 9:15 AM Central. Make your calls and emails now. It will up premiums, underfunds those that the Upton Amendment is supposed to help (and that money earmarked for pre-existing conditions doesn’t actually have to go to it), will throw 30 000 people at MINIMUM off healthcare, and being raped is apparently a pre-existing condition now.

Start calling. Emailing. Anything. People are saying they may win by ONE VOTE. C’mon, I know you guys can stop that.

Still important

Keep Calling About the AHCA

Net Neutrality Is On The Line

blenderbender1811:

blenderbender1811:

Call Your Rep and Senators:

http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

And log a complaint on the FCC’s site:

https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us

I also recommend writing, faxing, and leaving voice messages. Tell them you want net neutrality to stay.

Also you should call your Representatives (NOT your Senators yet) about the new amendment for Trump care. Keep it short: You do not want.

Called your reps about Net Neutrality? Good.

Lodged a complaint on the website? Good.

Now the FCC is open for comments – tell them why net neutrality matters and to stand by it: https://www.fcc.gov/restoring-internet-freedom-comments-wc-docket-no-17-108

Little Things You Can Do Today To Help

blenderbender1811:

1) Learn the names of your representative and senators.

2) Program their number or address/email address somewhere on your phone or computer.

3) Read the news.

4) Check out Politico and Media Bias Fact Check to examine the new source’s reliability

5) Check out sites like itstimetofight.weebly.com or 5calls.org

6) Set money aside to donate for causes you care about. Whether that’s libraries, schools, PBS, the EPA, immigration, foreign aid, ReproRights, the ACLU or whatever.

7) Memorize your ZIP code. If you ever call, write, meet, or email your electeds you need to include this. That way they know your constituent and won’t just junk your message.

8) Some things you could call about today:

– Vote no on the AHCA’s MacArthur Amendment.

– Ask about the pending shutdown.

– Stop escalating conflict with North Korea.

– Vote no on Trump’s tax plan.

– To ask them to defend Net Neutrality.

– To protest the appointment of Charmaine Yoest to Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs. She’s helped the AUL with abortion legislation for years and may be responsible for the plethora of  pro life state legislation, and she’s also flatly unqualified.

Because I’ve seen people wondering about things they can do if they can’t protest or make huge campaigns. Just try this stuff!

Also – check your voter registration, make sure it’s up to date, update it if it’s not.

I know this past week of meetings in the Senate has been discouraging guys. I do. This is impossible to breathe. So here are some things you can do to help:

– Call your senators about Mnuich (Mee-Noo-Chin) and tell them to vote no. The Senate does not vote on this until 7 EST on Monday. That’s 72 hours to make our voices heard. He’s the nominee for Treasury – he’s unqualified by any measure, failed to disclose 100 mil in assets, exploited homeowners in the 2008 crisis, and is a general bad choice. Learn more here: http://itstimetofight.weebly.com/steve-mnuchin-treasury.html

– Call about Priutt, who has no business running the EPA considering his history of anti-environmentalism and lawsuits against them.

http://itstimetofight.weebly.com/scott-pruitt-environmental-protection-agency.html

– Call about other things – Bannon on the NSC, how you expect your senators and reps to oppose Trump’s odious cabinet, about protecting the ACA and Medicare, about Russia, about the EPA, about Kellyanne Conway’s disgusting ethics violation, about supporting H.R. 804, stopping HR 637, keeping the Election Assistance Committee, about Flynn, protecting the separation of church and state, opposing H.R. 622, object to unravelling Dodd-Frank, oppose Neil Gorsuch, reject the Muslim ban, oppose the wall. All of this is important.

– Who should you call? https://5calls.org/ has a wonderful call list for many of the issues outlined above. All it needs is your ZIP code, which you can get by writing your full address in google maps. Be sure to tell them your ZIP (or full address if your district is cut weird and you don’t live in their ZIP) to ensure your call is logged. http://itstimetofight.weebly.com also offers call lists. Both sites offer scripts.

– Reblog posts encouraging people to call. Again, likes are very nice and much appreciated, but they don’t spread the word. Reblogging does.

– Keep up with your local, state, and national elections. And find out what your elected are doing. A good way to keep up nationally is here, and I would hope your states or localities have similar ways to keep up.: https://www.congress.gov/ If you oppose what they’re doing? CALL. If you agree? Call and encourage them.

– Not good at calling? Email them. Full mailbox? https://faxzero.com will let you fax them, and it will give you a number of free pages per day. Write letters. Go to events. ANYTHING. 5calls will also give you a list of local offices you can try.

– Check your voter registration – is it up to date? If not, update it. If it is, keep it that way as long as you can. 2018 is not far away.

http://www.roadto2018.com/indiana.html and https://swingleft.org offer good information on this.

– Donate and support whatever Democrat you get. A red state Democrat with a few values missing or compromised on to keep in office and whom you can contact to demand improvement from is better than a Trumpian Republican with no Democrat values whatsoever you’ll need to pull teeth with to get to do the right thing. You can influence your representative choices, sure, but work with the candidate you get. This is not optional. 2018 needs to flip to the Democrats and that’ll only happen if you support the candidates who have a chance – not third party or other candidates you think are further left. Work with who you have.

– If you are outside the US, keep up with your own governments too. The rise of authoritarian, neo-fascist, far right, and autocratic governments is real and you need to get ready to vote against it at home.

– Let me know what I can do to convince you to contact your reps. You want fanfic? Meta? Cute animal gif posts? I will do whatever I can to get you to contact your reps (within reason).

– Take care of yourselves. This is exhausting work. After you’ve reblogged call posts and (ideally) called your reps and done research, definitely treat yourself to an ice cream or find a friend to cry with or do something fun for you.

Reblogging this every day until Monday. I think its important

And again for you nighthawks.

If you want to add impeachment or relations with North Korea or any other country, feel free. Especially in light of recent events.

Friendly reminders.

Take your fight to people who can fix it. For instance, want to know why you’re paying for Trump’s weekends? Ask your electeds. Especially GOP electeds who like to complain about financial waste.

Venting is good for you, but if you’re going to complain to someone about something to get something done, you’ve gotta pick the right person. Your electeds are it.

Here’s a great call list for today! Get it done.

http://itstimetofight.weebly.com/call-list-for-monday-21317.html

And as always, check 5calls.org’s list out: https://5calls.org

So, while you are all hopefully calling your reps about Mnuchin (we have until 7 PM EST to do that!) you should also ask about how they plan to fill the holes in the administration. For more info, check these out:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-administration-appointee-tracker/database/

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-01-18/the-empty-trump-administration

http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/01/18/trumps-national-security-team-is-missing-in-action/

Okay, Mnuchin happened tonight. That’s okay, we can figure this out – however, he’s not the only vote coming up this week! I’ve left out  Shulkin before now because tbh, he’s not that bad (in the sense he has some semblance of qualifications and knowledge about what he is doing and what the job entails).

Here are folks who ARE that bad: Mulvaney
Pruitt
Ross
Zinke
Carson
Perry

All of them will be up for confirmation at some point soon, so start calling your senators and telling them this is not okay with you. As usual, suitable scripts are able to be found at itstimetofight (maybe not for each individual specifically, but tbh the templates for other nominees can be used) and 5calls, both of which are linked above and both of which will help you find your senators and people to call.

DAPL is happening again too, and a bill to repeal some of Obama’s gun controls was passed. Call and tell your senators how disappointed you are in them.

Today in “Holy shit what the fuck is happening?!?!”

oswinstark:

(Today being 02/14/17)

Mike Flynn resigned as National Security Advisor after it became clear that he lied about talking with Russia back in December about lifting the sanctions Obama placed on them

This is leading to members of the Senate, including members of the GOP, calling for an investigation into who in the White House knew what and when

Especially since Trump said he had “no knowledge” of any Flynn investigation by the FBI (which has been ongoing) whereas we found out today that Trump and other members of the White House were informed of the investigation into Flynn’s ties with Russia three weeks ago by the Acting Attorney General, Sally Yates

The Office of Government Ethics is calling for an investigation into Kellyanne Conway’s comments about Ivanka Trump’s brand during a Fox News interview over the weekend

She’s also bizarrely claiming that someone “hacked” into her account to retweet praise from a self-proclaimed White Nationalist this morning

Trump is currently being asked to “explain himself” as to why he was handling highly secure information in the middle of the crowded Mar-A-Largo dining room where patrons were taking pictures of him and the Japanese PM receiving a briefing about the North Korean missile launch

And the New York Times has just broken the news that members of Trump’s campaign had repeated contacts with Russian Intelligence during the election

And this is just in the last 24 hours

Call your senators and reps and support these investigation endeavours.

Truth.

What’s really important is that the Secret Service is RENTING a floor in Trump tower for the privilege of keeping Trump’s wife and son safe, instead of the two of them staying at the White House with him at no extra cost.  Trump is CHARGING the Secret Service to protect his family.  Trump is not merely costing the taxpayer a million dollars a day, he’s getting PAID that million dollars a day.

Call your senators and reps. Bring this up. Especially if they’re GOP and like to complain about financial waste.

Do It Out of Motherfucking Spite.

blenderbender1811:

No.

This is not the end.

Do you guys hear me? THIS IS NOT THE END.

Even if Trump wins House, Senate, and Presidency. THIS IS NOT THE END. I promise you that.

Even if you have to leave the US or fight tooth and nail just to keep breathing. Keep going. Please. Even if it feels like the end, please promise to keep going. It will get better, I promise, just hang on. Until his term is up/you can wreck the house in the midterms/he’s impeached or he dies or whatever happens. Hang on. I have faith in your ability to survive. Women, PoC, LGBT+, the disabled, the poor, etc. have all survived marginalization before, though never on such a disappointing scale. I’m sorry your country failed you because this never should have happened. But please, for the love of everything, just hang on until it gets better.

And if you can’t believe that it will? Then do it out of motherfucking SPITE. Do not give them the satisfaction of giving in to despair. Don’t give them the satisfaction of dying.

Bringing this back for those who need it right now.

To everyone worried about their future, to immigrants, Muslims, refugees, LGBT+ and especially trans kids struggling with Sessions right now: You matter. Please keep going. Pick something, anything, as a reason to find ways to live. It doesn’t have to be big or optimistic – it can totally be that you have no one to feed your cat, or you want to see how that show ends or you want your essay back. And when that thing comes? Pick another one. And another one and another one and another one. As long as you can find any reason to try and go on, because you matter and you deserve to go on.
